Certification of diamonds is an important stage in the process of preparing a gemstone for sale to the end consumer. Each diamond weighing more than 0.3 carats (and sometimes smaller, but rare specimens) is certified for convenience and reliability. The diamond certificate provides buyers with confidence and guarantees that they get exactly what they pay for. There are many gemological laboratories in the world, but only a few of them are independent and the most authoritative. In this article we will tell you about such laboratories and which laboratories are better not to trust at all.
Which laboratories do we work with:
1. GIA (Gemological Institute of America)
It is one of the most reputable and well-known gemological laboratories in the world. They provide detailed certificates of diamonds, which include information on the "4С" system: color, clarity, cut, and carat weight. GIA certified diamonds are in high demand and are valued for their reliability. A special mention is worthy of laser marking, which GIA applies to the rundist of the stones being checked, so that even without a certificate at hand, with only a magnifying glass, it was possible to access the evaluation of the stone through their electronic database.
2. AGS (American Gem Society)
It is also one of the leading gemological laboratories in the world. They are known for their commitment to strict standards and thorough research. AGS certificates contain information about 4C, as well as additional data, such as symmetry and fluorescence assessment.
3. HRD (or the Hoge Raad voor Diamant)
It is one of the oldest and most respected gemological laboratories in the world. Based in Antwerp, Belgium, HRD has over 100 years of experience in diamond evaluation and certification.
… and other abbreviations of 3 letters with a round logo that try to visually resemble the logos of leading laboratories and thus mislead buyers.
